From the Ural to the Andes Mountains: Art Without Borders

Updated: Feb 18

Oct 30 - Nov 8, 2024 | Santiago

This exhibition is held as part of the cultural exchange between Chile and the Ural region of Russia and features the participation of three artists representing three generations of the creative Efremov family, hailing from the city of Yekaterinburg.

On the Chilean side, two artists will participate: Felipe Arnolds Pizarra and Joaquín Solo from Salvar Letelier. This will give the visitor the opportunity not only to get acquainted with the nature of the Urals and the works of artists, but also to enter into a unique game of comparisons, analogies and opposites which will undoubtedly arouse the interest of the public.

Exhibited Artists

Felipe Arnolds Pizarro

Born 1961

Since its beginnings, Chilean painting has had a particular inclination for landscape, and some critics and historians, such as Antonio Romera, recognize a "consistency" in it throughout its history. Linked to travel, exploration and outdoor life, it was a way to discover our territory from a new perspective. Felipe Arnolds, ensuring the continuity of this rich tradition, returns to the landscape with a vocation that can be considered "religious", and that seeks to "reconnect" with nature and restore the lost connection. Having abandoned the illusory hierarchical position where man was elevated above other species, Arnolds approaches nature with humility and admiration, trying to decipher its language and recreate it through color.

Joaquín Solo De Zaldívar

Born 1952

Joaquín is an artist with an active career in art, design and environmentalism. Throughout his career he has distinguished himself by participating in numerous individual and group exhibitions in addition to receiving awards and distinctions in recognized art competitions.

His individual exhibitions have been held in the most famous galleries in Santiago such as Galería Parque Metropolitano, Instituto Cultural de Providencia, Casa Lo Mata and others. The artist also has experience holding exhibitions outside of Chile in cities such as New York, United States (1994) and Tokyo, Japan (2013). Furthermore, Joaquín is actively involved in caring for the environment which is reflected in his participation in public-private agreements for the protection of the environment as well as in the creation of natural reserve projects.

Valentin Efremov

Born 1932

Valentin is an architect by profession and his hobby is drawing from life. The viewer knows him as the author of a series of landscapes deep inside the Ural mountains. Among these are landscapes of rivers, mountains and towns. During his creative career, Valentin Mikhailovich traveled with a sketchbook throughout the Soviet Union, from Karelia to Kamchatka. The exhibition presents his works dedicated to some regions of his native country. At 92 years old, Valentin has not lost interest in creativity and continues to work.

Alexey Efremov

Born 1963

His brushes have given life to hundreds of works in the realist style, captured on the streets of Yekaterinburg and its surroundings. The artist's creative portfolio also includes several painting cycles related to his travels through Europe, China and Mexico. For this exhibition, Alexey Efremov has prepared a series of works inspired by the mountains of his homeland, the Urals. His creative creed is light, harmony and love.

Anna Efremova

Born 2000

Anna graduated in Painting from the Yekaterinburg University of Architecture and Arts and specializes in the genre of portraiture while showing a deep interest in graphic techniques. This exhibition brings together her works dedicated to Yekaterinburg, where the theme of the ancient city prevails. Her drawings, made with pencils and markers, stand out for their documentary and lyrical qualities.
